Then consider the price.
A cheaper air conditioner is only useful if it suits your room and the way you’ll use it. Start with these checks before building a shortlist.

Match the unit to the room
Measure the room and consult the manufacturer’s sizing guidance for the exact model. Cooling capacity is commonly quoted in BTU/h. Floor area alone does not tell the whole story: sunlight and other heat sources can affect what your room needs. Do not assume that the highest capacity is automatically the best fit.

Plan the exhaust before ordering
A portable air conditioner such as the MeacoCool models needs to discharge hot air outside through an exhaust hose. Check the chosen model’s manual, the supplied window kit and whether it suits your window. Allow the specified clearance around the appliance and follow the manufacturer’s hose instructions.
Check the unit’s dimensions and weight too. Think about where it will stand during use and where you will store it afterwards. Meaco’s MC Series manual (PDF) illustrates the installation checks; use the manual for your exact model when buying.
Compare the details you’ll live with
- Noise: check the published noise figure and which mode it describes. Look for comparable measurements before comparing models.
- Running cost: check electrical input power, not just cooling capacity. As a simple hypothetical calculation, 1 kW of input at 25p per kWh costs 25p for an hour of continuous use at that input. Your tariff and actual operating behaviour determine the real cost.
- Everyday use: read the maintenance and drainage instructions. Consider controls, storage and any accessories you would need to buy separately.
- After-sales support: read the warranty and the seller’s delivery and returns information before placing an order.
What makes a price comparison useful?
Write down the full model number, product condition and included accessories. Compare the total payable price, including delivery and any installation items you need. A different model, bundle or refurbished unit is a different proposition.
A past price needs a date and context. Was the product available to buy? Was a discount conditional on a code or membership? Two observations can show a difference, but they cannot establish the cheapest month or prove a seasonal pattern.
Should you buy before summer?
Planning early gives you time to measure, research and prepare your setup. It does not guarantee a lower price. We do not yet have enough comparable history to recommend a cheapest month or advise you to delay a purchase you need now.
